I'd rather have mk2 I've had both mk2 n 3 and my mk2 gti pisses over mk3 n mk4s. There a classic that need to be kept on the road as one of the last real gti's.

 :grin: :grin: :grin: :grin: Too True +1

I think that people need to understand that VW changed the meaning of GTI in the early 90's due to a changing market. The mk3 is not a fast hatch (not the 8v gti anyway) but it wasnt meant to be. A mk2 would piss all over it in terms of speed and handling but probably not in terms of comfort and refinement (and maybe reliability,debatable)and this is what VW were aiming for. Also, Im sure I read somewhere that in the early 90's insurance premiums were ridiculously high and this is why lots of 90's hatches were a bit slow and didnt have much power?!

GTi = FUN   :evil:

MK2 is Fun to drive and the MK3 is..... "comfortable"?  :rolleyes:

Ergo; The MK2 GTi is better than the MK3.

They done it for the money and too keep up with the market, they could of carried on making proper gtis, but wouldnt be as big as they are today, dont see why they couldnt of just made a few fun cars, not like they wouldnt of sold.

Gotta be careful now though, it would appear that there's a mk3 entering the family/

 It was true about premiums for hot hatches in the early 90s. Anything with a bit of poke was hammered, dad had a saphirre cosworth for just under a year. The third time it was nicked it never came back  :angry:  Pricey indeed.
