FYI - the FSI engines are Fuel Stratified Injection. They only actually operate at this condition for very finite amounts of time, not consistently. Thus it's just like any other conventional engine.

They would be a ball ache to fit as they are constantly electronically monitored throughout the loading conditions to control the inlet tract to the engine, and also the injection periods and timings.

I'm sick and tired of hearing people say drop a bigger engine in! So if we were all sheep there would be a huge amount of big engined cars, then a huge amount of completely standard cars....Nothing in between. The guy wants to modify his 1.3 engine, he is asking for advice on how to make the 1.3 more powerful, not advice about should he drop a bigger engine in. I think people need to focus on the original thread title and stick by it, yes say it might be worthwhile dropping a bigger engine in for the simplest way of getting power, but there's no need to gang rape the guy and bombard him with info he doesn't want. I'm sure he knows it would be better to put a bigger engine in.

Fair point but you fitted a 16v when you could have made your 8v faster but lets be honest it made sense.

My 8v engine was getting tired and starting to need more than just modifications.

Just a misunderstanding here thats all Jim I'm all for getting a few more horses the cheapest way you can!
But the post does suggest increase in BHP for value for money, and TBH reliability is another issue ontop of the insurance? They have stayed on topic for one reason you mentioned increase in horse power just they are trying to save you money hence dropping a larger lump already tried and tested i.e 1.6-1.8 lumps? But hey IMO porting the sh!t out of a 1.3 does leave questions out there for the lobes, piston conrods rings, oil pumps etc... on reliability...? Which is why I said it would be kool to drop a FSI 1.4 still small block, but a very revvie vtec style of engine to give you better rev range and BHP.
It would be a shame to see you go, but TBH they have gone easy on you......... :lipsrsealed:

To be fair I have looked at those FSI 1.4 engines before. Super charged and turbo at the same time very very tempting! Nothings out of the question at the moment its still very very early days and I have even began to solidify my plans. The only thing that put me off those FSI engines is I can't really find much info on them. Wiring diagrams etc etc. I believe its the same engine they fitted to some Scoda's? Corect me if i'm wrong. . .
I just want to do something different, not follow trends and to experiment a little.

I'll agree though with wayne, those 320 cams are undrivable on the road, you have to pretty much grow an extra foot to keep the thing going at traffic lights and this is really not what i'm after. More the case of purring but powerful.

It may be possible to tune the 1.3 but like you're saying how reliable will it actually be... :undecided:

So a cam from a HH engine (mk1/2 Polo) will fit and is a slight upgrade. The GK engine had this cam and was a 1.3 75BHP standard engine (Largely due to the CR (11:1) but the same cam is also in mk1 and 2 Polos engine code HH.....but to be honest, that cam aint gonna do much/nothing on its own....Shrick would be your best bet for a cam but you could get a custom one ground to your own spec....

Are you setting up a project thread....?? I had this idea about 7 years ago but was shot down in flames by many a folk, but after this discussion it's all starting to flood back!!

The polo G40 camshaft is not usable. The 1.3 Golf has a mechanical fuel pump driven from the cam.....

Isn't the fuel pump driven by the intermediate shaft like in the big block engines?

Want to make a 1.3 "quick" as apposed to "fast", throw away all the weight you can, if you can't throw it away do they make a lighter version?

Think Berg Cup, some of those engines are bonkers (don't know how much fun they'd be in stop start traffic mind) but a quick google turned up the following....

You don't own a Mk2, you support it.

Nope early 1.3 carb engines had a fuel pump driven off the cam.

Will contact shrick... see what they can do on a cam

Anyone got any recommendations to people to use for porting etc etc?

Havn't set up a project thread as of yet but closer to the desision on what i'm gonna do I will probably do one just as it seems no one else has bothered,Which is making me want to do it even further.

This GK manifold, anyone know where I can find one... I've search high and low for one and never come acrossone, abit like the lock ness monster... hahahaha

My cam defintly drives my fuel pump but this isn't an issue in the slightest, you'd just remove the mechanical jobber and put an electronic one in its place....

ebay.de......the engine was only available in Germany I believe.....Or you could try to copy it by enlarging the ports on your existing inlet manifold
