Just got mine (carbon grey) and checked under bonnet, it's a dark grey matt finish. The other thing I notice on my leather seats is that they are fabric on the lower seat sides 
is this more penny pinching VW???
There use to be small print in the price list and broucher that said something like only the parts in touch with you were real leather, the rest was fake leather, maybe they have changed the fake stuff to cloth now.
