There were no paint issues with the MK5.VW modified the way the MK6 was made to save money and have dropped the ball somewhere along the lines as its a bit of a reoccurring problem on the MK6.

My mk6 is painted exactly the same way as my mk5 was, i don't really see a problem with not having top coat colour in areas that are not seen, ie under boot carpet, inside wings etc. That said there are exeptions and snoopy is a prime example as the lack of body colour paint can be seen quite easily, imo as long as there are no issues with corrosion then i'm not too worried.
Currently pootling around in our family wagen, a Tiguan SEL 😂

Oh yeah, Im not saying that they are all crap. Just some of them seem to have some quality control points.

The 'don't ask, don't tell', 'where ignorance is bliss, 'tis folly to be wise', and other such attitutes are the prime causes that quality has suffered so badly in this frenetic consumer driven ignorant society.

I'm with am1w on this one, you guys have handed over some serious cash. Just because VW release them from the factory this way doesn't make it right. What next, orange peel on the paintwork to save on the thickness of the paint.

I actually had a good root around some Mk5 GTis and was impressed with the quality of the paint finish and did not notice any lack of paint coverage on internal panels. It was one of the reasons I chose a Mk6 GTi! Thus, no paint issues that now seem to be a Mk6 norm. Thus, no nasty surprise as with the Mk6.

I think VW have been very clever by improving the touch-feely internals to give the car a perceived and possible improvement in quality and solidity. There had to be a cut-back somewhere, so they used less paint on parts that Average Joe would never really be inquisitive enough to see!

Oh well, one lives and learns!

Still love the car to bits!!!!

The whole reason for bringing the MK6 out early was because the MK6 is considerably cheaper to manufacture than the MK5, the MK5 was costing them too much to make.
