ABS Light
« on: 19 January 2005, 18:29 »
The other day my ABS light came on and stayed on. That means i need to change my brake pads right?? I know the front have sensors, but do the rear ones have sensors aswel?? Any idea how much the pads will be about?? Will the light automatically go off when the pads are changed or do i have to get the machine to reset it??

Thanks

P.S.
my golf is gti 2.0 8v 1997

ABS light has nothing to do with brake pads i'm afraid, there is a separate light for that.
Most likely you have a problem with one of the ABS sensors or rotors.

I wouldn't buy ANYTHING from GSF.
If you want good parts and not pay dealer prices, go to EURO CAR PARTS.

At first mine used to flicker on & off, then it stayed on. I had to change the rear left. it's behind the brake disk & held on with an alan key bolt (on the rear ones, not sure about the front ones), so yes you will have to take the wheel off. I had a guy put it on a diagnostic machine to see which sensor had gone. it was easy enough to do, i just followed what it said in the Haynes manual
