G60 brake vs S2 twin pot
« on: 01 September 2010, 16:46 »
I have a set of g60 brakes, the type with the single piston and have been reading that a lot of people are putting on audi s2 brakes instead, the twin piston type....

Does any one know if I would see much of a braking difference between the two?

Also do the s2 brakes fit over the normal 280mm discs?

What are you running that 280mm G60 calipers aren't enough?

Nothing at the moment but am in the process of putting a 1.8T in

I'm happy to use the G60's but can get a hold of a set of brakes from the S2 so was really just questioning whether its worth it?

yes, the s2 twin pot calipers will be a vast improvement over the g60 single's. More pistons = greater surface area of the pad in contact with the disc during braking, simples

However, you should be aware that the s2 calipers are alot wider than g60's and may not go behind your wheels...

Veedub16vgit seemed to think so.

If you need a vast improvement over G60 calipers with under 200bhp then do some leg exercises or learn to drive better.

G60's/280's with 3rd party pads stop very well on mine

I don't think a semi will give the same results

std g60's calipers provided plenty of brakeing for mine,  even when i had some really cheep pads tho they were better with posh pads.

the main reason i'll be upgradeing them as and when i put the car back together will be to reduce unsprung weight.    as to be fair with much more clamping force i recon it chould be possible to remove to much feel form the pedal
all the VW's have gone bar 1.
