Tyre pressure sensor
« on: 30 August 2010, 15:47 »
Hi All

I haven't been on here for a while but has anyone had any problems with their tyre pressure sensor ?

I was on the outside lane of the motorway on Saturday when I heard a beep and a warning came up telling me to check the tyres. I pulled over at the next services and checked the pressures and they were all fine. I have the warning every time I start her up so will have to get it looked over at VW.

Almost 6 months in and still look forward to driving her every day btw

Press and hold the button on the inside of the glovebox to reset it (newer models) or down by the gear stick (older models).  It just a bit random I think, may have never been set at the PDI.

Great- thanks for your help ! I didn't even know that button was in the glovebox

Is it quite a common thing to have to re-set it ?

Thanks again

I think the GTi has the proper TPMS which means it has tyre pressure sensors in each wheel. I just have the cheaper Flat Tyre Indicator for £35, it works great. When the light comes on you stop and visually check the tyres and they all look ok. You get home and check the pressures and 3 are at 37psi and 1 is 33psi. You top it up and the light is still on. You press the Set button in the glovebox and it goes off.

Its nothing to do with the dealer setting it up, I've hear loads of problems with the TPMS going off and there's no pressure difference.

I've had to reset mine 3 times but they have all been legitimate times when one of my tyres was under inflated.
Last time being when I had an alloy changed and the fitter didn't inflate the tyre back to what it was previously.

I know the GTI's abroad have this but do the UK ones?
As its still an option for £35 in the UK GTI

Sadly not...just the same ABS sensor derived measurement based trigger.
No sensors, as the Audis have.

Reducing my Golf count by the week....
..but gaining motorcycles.

I wondered if they randomly go off as the tyre wears down so the radius is changing.

What I do now, is when I check the tyre pressures so that I know they are correct, I reset the system.  That way I get less false arms (only had one mind in 7500miles) and I am only really relying on it to tell me theres a flat.

Do you really trust a system that much you never check your tyres anyway?

p.s. the colder weather we are having means the tyre pressures will drop a little too.
