V Ed30 vs VI R - advice pls!!

Right so here's my two pence worth, dsg and any other gadgets that VW bring out are always used and tested in the golf first , don't agree the s tronic superior to the dsg !! But do agree s3 is still a nice car the engine feels a bit revy, bit harsh!!

I had a gti mk6 dsg on a 10 plate. I loved that car and thought it could'nt be prettier. Unfortunately i had to reject it cos of a faulty box.
I now have an S3 sportback in white S tronic box.
I agree it not as pretty as the mk6 which was also white but the auto box is far far superior than the dsg and has far better build quality all round.
As i waited 7 months far my mk6 to arrive i spent hours on this forum reading about all the faults and niggles found by owners of the mk6 so there was no way i could take the risk of ordering another golf whether a gti or an R.
 So to sum up i think the S3 is better looking than the R but not the gti and the audi box and fit and finish in general is better than the golfs.

erm no. the s3 and R have virtually the same auto box. If anything the R has a newer version.. "improved" is what they call it.

I can assure you there is nothing but driver skill in it between a golf R and an S3. I have had 2 have a go and I slightly edged it but they were newer engines which is the only reason i was slightly quicker.

Looks are subjective, i think the mk6 looks like a mini tourag which is a very ugly car. The Audi's interior is far superior to the mk6 though which was made with cost cutting in mind, something the audi isn't.

Also the fact it's going to be replaced means nothing, once the new A3 is out the MK7 will be out so the Golf R will be replaced just as quickly.

Get the ine you like. In the golf people will think you couldn't afford the Audi, in the Audi people will think you are a cock. Depends if you are bothered what people think, S3>ED30 though every day! Golf R>ED30 also.

They obviously had an off tune S3 for all three different tracks as the R's times are faster than the S3's at all three tracks

And of course it was the same driver/day/conditions/mileage etc etc

Oh and was it the facelift with the newer halex?

They are identical as they are the same car, the vw just costs more and has a lesser quality interior

Quite some difference in those figures... i must have just been a audi hater driving

There is 0.5 secs difference between them in the first link and it states 06 which means the variables are huge (drivers/conditions etc etc) and the S3 is prefecelift with the older haldex.

The golf r is an S3 with a vw badge in a facelift mk5 chassis
