Agreed - the standard seats in the R aren't really my cup of tea.

I like the ED30 ones best - tartan in the middle with leather bolsters.  The best of both worlds.

+1

Ok Steve, perhaps the retro tartan looks ok in a GTI/D, but have you seen the cloth option on the R? Not good. Leather was the only sensible option.

The standard titan black red jacara cloth seats are very nice indeed on the GTI and provide the retro look. However personally I love the leather seats as they give the cars interior an overall classier look and feel. Heated leather seats are a must and with the leather seats you get electronic lumbar support which is very good on the old 'Cilla Black'. The leather seats on the Mk6 are also a massive improvement on the Mk5 ones

Personally I love the jacara cloth in my GTI, having carried a number of passengers in the past year I've had many compliments on the tartan effect and 1 year on the cloth looks as good as new.

VW leather is not premium quallity and sags very quicklly which spoils that supposed premium feel.

You may well be right tbo.... sorry to clarify I owned a Mk5 GT before the Mk6 GTI and in comparing the leather seats with these cars the leather seats in the Mk6 are a step up in quality (but so is the overall interior).

My Mk5 was a 57 plate which I owned for 3 years and the leather didn't mark, stretch or become jaded looking in that time. I also didn't really ever use leather cleaning and conditioning products on the seats. The seats looked as good as new when I traded in the car to be fair.
