exhaust manifold removal trouble

ive taken off 7 out of 8 bolts after dosing them in plus gas for two days, all came off.

Just need a slim spanner with the circle bit on the end to get the last one off as the rachet was too big to fit. The haynes manual says about getting a downpipe removal tool, im struggling to get the two bolts off of the flange joint, is there a special tool needed, would a crows foot work ( adjustable tap spanner )

Also if anyone knows, i need to put a bung on my manifold for an 02 sensor when it comes time for mapping my ms, where would be the best place to put this?

Downpipe removal tool?

For a cooking Golf2, yes, but they have spring clips, which you can just level off with a bar.

G2 GTI should have 6 bolts on the top of the downpipe and a flange at the bottom.  All nuts.

Put the lambda boss at the bottom of the downpipe, pointing up into the tunnel, like a G3.

Ok yes was being blind there are 6, all seem very rusting so putting plus gas on for a few days. Theres 6 bolts underneath the flange so finding it hard to get something under there plus its seems there various sizes of bolts too!

Haynes says, " VW tool 3049A will be necessary to release and subsequently refit the joint retaining clips

Do I need to raise the car to get the bolts then ?

Also, we've got an arc welder, can i use it to weld a bung onto the downpipe? Guessing it welds to where it goes into one pipe so i get all 4 cylinders, all i can see on mine is two pipes but probs goes to one then a silencer in mild steel then after that is stainless.

Would i excess the lambda boss by taken the hand brake gear stick surrounding off ? Or do i need to remove the it to weld it?

the best place for teh lambda i just after the last merge of pipes in teh exhaust system. as dh said  lambda sensors must allways be mounted so the sensor eliment is pointing down,  so condensation dosent collect in the sensor as that kills them

Ok thanks, when it's fitted where would you excess it?

as long as it just pointing down they are fine,  so you can usally pick a spot where there is enough room in the tunnel for accses
