Sounds quite hot, is your coolant temp that high as well?

Its only slightly higher than normal just over halfway. I replaced the rad cap the other day for a blue one i think it was doing this before though. I have just replaced the dizzy cap and spark plugs aswell for genuine vw parts.

I would probably get the oil pressure tested, to make sure the pump is working ok.

I think you might have to go to a garage to get the pressure tested, you may be able to buy something, have to have a look around. However if you haven't got a splash sheild in your cam cover(i'm sure 16v hasn't), leave the car overnight, take the oil cap off, start the car and see how quick the oil flows at the top of the cylinder head. It should come up very quickly. Another thing to try is to take off your oil cooler and clean it out, it may be clogged up.

I have just started the golf up (cold) without the cap on and oil was spitting out then a couple of seconds latter it was very messy. The oil pessure must be ok. I have been driving the car today and the oil temp is now at 104 most of the time i think it must have been the hot weather maybe. I have noticed the water level is slowly going down this has only started since my water level sensor seal went. I have replaced this and its not leaking from that. I have looked for leaks but not found any yet. I topped the water up with g12 plus but noticed that richandhazel used the same stuff and it made his mk1 leak all over the place. whats going on with this stuff anyone know. :'(

clean out the oil cooler at the top of the oil filter, just take of the two pipes and run hose water thru it

i cleaned mine per chance when i split one of the hoses.

the amount of gunk, rust, chunks of crap that came out was frightening
