MK3 Golf - ICE Question ...
« on: 13 August 2010, 00:27 »
First of all, after disconnecting my 10" Vibe subwoofer and re-connecting it, I have developed a loud thump sound whenever I change songs on the headunit, or take the Volume from nothing to something. Its really annoying ... I double checked the Earth wire but it seems perfectly fine. What can it be?

Secondly, I think the OEM wiring for my stereos etc in the car are VERY VERY poor ... I get a lot of treble but no mid-bass what so ever, and even though I have fresh new alpine speakers in all the OEM speaker slots (front & back doors) they don't sound that great, just slightly better than the original crap that was in their when I got the car 3 years ago.

My question is, how do I go about powering the front component/door speakers and rear ones directly? if you know what I mean ... So I can get more "ooomph" from them, and mid-bass. What Im basically saying is, if I were to buy a decent pair of door speakers can I power them "away" from the OEM wiring the car has and connect them directly to the headunit myself, if so how?

Am I right in saying if I were to power the door speakers seperately, I would first of all need an Amp in the boot that has RCAs from the headunit to the amp ... and then have speaker cables going from the door speakers to the amp?

The loud thump sound is prob a ground loop. you can buy a little resistance box thing that plugs into rcas at the amp.

if you wanted to power the front speakers off an amp then yea, you would need a new amp and cable from there to the speakers. have to get them through the door connection tho. mabie just re-new the cable to the speakers from the headunit, depending on how powerfull the headunit is. prob a cheaper option!

Are ground loops known to arise out of the blue then? and how would i go about wiring new wires to the headunit? ive got a discontinued Alpine 60x4 which ive had for years produces top sound! - but in regards to wiring speaker cables directly are the old ones in that ISO plug that connects to the headunit??
