removing buffer swirls help

Morning all,

Used my Megs G220 last night on the GF's Black Ford Fusion bonnet (to get rid of oxidation marks - may have seen a previous post by me) and it worked really well.  But...  I am left with some buffer swirls and just want to check whats the best way to remove them.

I used a Megs cutting pad (7") http://www.monzacarcare.com/machine-polishing-2/meguiars-w7207--foam-cutting-pad/0/with the std 5" backing plate, and megs swirl free polish 82 (http://www.monzacarcare.com/machine-polishing-2/meguiars-mirror-glaze-swirl-free-polish-82/0/).  I used speed 3-4 on the dial - a bit quick maybe?  Pad was primed with Megs Quick detailer spray.

The buffer swirls are not deep or anything, just looks like outer edge of the pad has "cut" more than the middle - leaving large half circles.  As its a black car - it shows up!

Bit of googling this morning implies going over it again with a finishing pad an a low speed (1-2 on the dial).  Is that a good idea?  What compound should I use - the no.82 again?

Any other constructive advice welcome.

hi james you basically need some finishing polish and a finnessing pad, your buffer trails have occured through too much pressure and your cutting pad was proberly a tad too stiff and dry, finishing pads are very soft and the finishing polish will tease the trails out,
use very lite pressure and dont move across the panel too fast just nice smooth sweeping motions.

i use all off these as they produce very good results.

depending on how bad your buffer trails are and if theres little to no defects left you proberly would get away with using a glaze on a finishing pad.

thanks Dan.  I see i4detailing are (annoyingly) shut this week...

Would you recommend staying with the no.82 from megs as a light cut polish or switch to a different one?  I ask cause i4detailing have the bits you recommend, but I'll also need some more no.82 soon, and don't want to place orders with multiple suppliers - to save postage really.

Matt who runs i4 will be back off holiday this week i think so if you can hold fire he will sort you out failing that go to elite as they stock most of the above bar the britemax range. i dont use megs polishes at all as theres better out tbh, menzerna and 3m polishes are the ones to get for vag/bmw paints. i see where your coming from on postage costs

+1 on megs stuff and been better stuff out their, i personally really dont like megs stuff, i feel half the cost goes into fancy packaging and brand name

ordering some Menzerna stuff and some of their 135mm pads.  The megs 7" one seems to not fit very well on the 5" plat and oscillates - can't be good.

When they use the G220 their backing pad looks bigger than my standard 5" one, and their pad doesn't wobble everywhere so he gets a good contact....
