Use them all the time as well, don't really like the auto modes, except when stuck in traffic.

I used them that much on the MK5 that I had to get one replaced under warranty as the rubber coating had worn off

I have a MK5 GTI that is nearly 5 years old now, and the rubber coating on my paddle sh!ts has started to wear off. I brought the car from a main dealer in November and it came with the extended warranty, do you think they will replace mine under the warranty?

Its certainly worth a try, good luck with it!

Does anyone with a DSG actually ever use the paddleshifts regularly? In thinking I was the next ‘Lewis Hamilton’, I had a little play with the paddleshifts this morning on the way in to work. Good fun, but to be honest it’s the first time I've ever really used them.

Always in manual, always use my extended Carbon fibre paddleshifters

Saint Steve, I'm liking the sound of 'extended carbon fibre paddleshifters'...... more information required please!
Thanks MAW73

TID styling paddles, simply adhere to the back of the exsisting paddle. Not cheap, but were £160 when i brought mine, now about more now!!

It took me a while to adjust to DSG.  I mean 20 yrs driving manuals and its going to be strange dropping gears without lifting your foot off the accelerator then slowly depressing a clutch

I am still adjusting but have found that the real beauty of DSG is its ability to work as a hybrid of automatic and manual.

I live and work in London so Automatic saves me from constantly putting it into first, second then back again.

When I leave work and take on less traffic its time for fun with the paddles.  Whats really clever is that even if you leave the stick in manual the car will still change down the gears if you stop using the paddles for a bit.

Its the best of both worlds in my opinion.  Only downside is there is a certain jerkiness to DSG opposed to a manual but then I reckon its just me getting used to it.
Golf GTI mk6 DSG in black - 18inch Monza shadows - leather interior - sat nav - f/r parking sensors - heated seats - well it was a showroom model!

They are an absolute must imo, and so easy to stick on.You can change gear with your hands higher up the wheel rather then fighting with the tiny oem paddles which are frankly too short.

I tried the TID paddles and was massively disappointed as the stick on nature meant they didn't react as well as the original ones in IHMO, so swapped to the OSIR GT Shift ali paddles.

As seen below on my Mk5, now on my Mk6

I would 100% recommend these but be aware the airbag needs to be removed for fitting.

I haven't used the paddles much, really.  It's a familiarity thing, I think.  To me, changing gear means a clutch and a gear-stick, and I'm not used to the idea of just pressing a button.

Still.  I've been taking a narrow, winding country road to avoid road works this week.  The DSG isn't completely satisfactory on that.  I tried putting it in S instead of D, but that wasn't what I wanted either.  This morning, after reading this thread last night, I put it in manual and used the paddles.  That did it.  Held the gear I knew it should be in (because I can see what's ahead and the DSG box can't), and I didn't even need to take my hands off the wheel.

I need to remember about the stick-shift capability for when the paddles are out of reach.  Again it's practice - so much of the time it's just fine leaving it in D, so extended practice doesn't tend to happen.

I still find it slightly jerky compared to a manual with the possibility of slipping the clutch, but it's not a problem - I'm capable of being just as jerky with a manual if I'm not paying 100% attention.  The advantages massively outweight the advantages.

I think the DSG is the future, really.  When young drivers start to learn on them, and don't get used to a manual clutch, there won't even be an argument.

Rolfe.

TID ones on my Ed30.

No issues with slow shift, Redrobin and Hurdy have these same set and their opinions are the same as mine.

More expensive but worth it imo.

More expensive by worth it.

Got any more pics? I think I might have to get a set...
