double din help with sizes please and fitment mk4

hi all ive got a mk4 gti and want to fit a dvd bluetooth sat nav double din thingy.
im going for a after market one but not sure what size i need as some have differant fitting sizes.
ive read bits about an adapter but unsure if ill need one or not?
i havnt decided on one i want yet, but what parts will i need to make it fit please?

as long as you buy a branded model kenwood,pioneer etc then you will not need and facia adapters all you will need is an antenna booster
if you buy one of the cheapy far eastern units then you may need a double din facia adapter as some of these units do not come with a cage so won't fit without it

it will just be a cheapo £250 one im affraid. so ill have to buy just a fascia? or a fascia and cage?
also can anyone recommend a unit they have or seen?

if it does not have a cage you just need to buy one of these

the stereo is then mounted using the supplied screws thorugh the sides of the plastic facia

no thats for a mk5 onwards
if you get a double din that does not have a cage
you only need the plastic fascia i mentioned above not a cage
