20,000 mile report
« on: 31 July 2010, 22:05 »
Just completed 20,000 miles in my Mk 6 in 7 months and thought I'd pass on some highlights/lowlights

Highlights

Fuel Consumption : 34.8MPG (using Optimax)
Running in : First 1000 miles as per advice on this forum - no problems
Oil Consumption : 1 litre in 20,000 miles
No rattles or bits falling off
1st Service this week - only car I have EVER owned without any addiitonal work to be completed at a service.
Tyres - front tyres replaced for the first time this week at 20,800 miles. Amazing for a FWD car these days. Dunlops from factory. Replaced with Goodyears
Tornado Red - paintwork perfect as new. Lifeshine with AutoGlym when new. Still beads.
Monza wheels - no kerbing so far (hope it stays that way)
DSG is amazing - worth the extra. I preferred this over leather seats (which I think are overpriced) and glad I did
Completed a 300 mile journey last night with an average speed of 78MPH and got 32.5MPG (Cruise Control set at 88MPH) - can't complain at that.

Lowlights

Dynaudio upgrade was not as good as I thought it would be
Rear wiper sweep area seems pitifully small

Summary
Best car I have ever owned in 35 years (and I say that after 3 years running a VW Phaeton before the GTI - which I thought was the best car in the world!)
So that can't be bad eh?

Anyone out there reading this still deliberatinghover buying a GTI - go for it - you won't regret it.

Oh yeah - a couple but not so as you'd notice. Not enough to warrant a pencil touch up yet anyway.

I can't believe you are disappointed with dynaudio, I find it first class for sound and depth of clarity  is awesome.

The standard set-up is excellent and has a slightly better tonal balance on classical music. The ugly duckling RCD310 with standard speakers sounds just as good as the RNS510 with Dynaudio IMHO.
RNS510 with standard speakers is also pretty damn good once one gets the right one!  Where the Dynaudio scores is the very slightly cleaner mid range/treble, notiable with high quality Classical Music recordings.
But that's me and my humble opinion.
As I don't have Dynaudio, I need to be negative towards it.
Oh, I'll soon have to start being negative towards Xenons as I don't have them either .... and the sunroof ....

Imo Dynaudio like any better system shows up flaws in the recordings quality and how it was originally recorded more, therefore 99% of people think it sounds worse than a less revealing system. Especially in todays society of Iplops and earbuds
