Help - Hazard Lights Will Not Switch Off
« on: 27 July 2010, 22:46 »
Hi,

Had to put my hazards on tonight then went to switch them off and nothing happened - they stayed flashing.  The button seems to depress ok.

Any ideas - switch replacement?  Anyone done this before (and maybe have a part number ).  Had to whip out the indicator fuses for now (so not flashing all night) but this also means the car is unusable, ignition does not even come on.

Well annoyed - couple of weeks out of warranty too

Any help appreciated.

Cheers

You can disconnect it from the back of the dashboard, if you dismantle the top half of the dash (quite easy to do, search for sat nav removal), then pull out the wire that goes to it and replace the switch. The switch shouldn't be more than a few quid.

Thanks for the reply - I used the sticky http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=40928.0 to work out the centre fascia removal (consulted the haynes manual as a starter - should have come straight on to here!).  Bit of bugger to get off but managed to get access to the switch and luckily it was a loose connection so just needed clicking back in (suspect the speed bumps was the last straw!)

Hoping now I've not created any new "rattles" but happy I've managed to do some level of maintenance on my car
