excessive play in bottom ball joint.
« on: 20 July 2010, 15:26 »
Just been to have my tracking done and been told that they cannot set it up due to excessive play in the bottom ball joint.
How can i tell if this is the case and they are not just pulling a fast one as i dont really trust the garage and just took it there out of convenience?
just had my suspension fitted last week and all seemed fine then according to my friends that fitted it?
Been quoted £147.20 for all the work doing.

Cheap and easy enough to sort yourself to be honest.

Jack the car up and get a friend to rock the wheel then see if you have any play.

Easy repair. Can be done with hub in place.

3 Bolts hold the ball joint in place, then one big bolt holds the ball joint to the hub. Fitting is reversal or removal.

i'll have a look tonight. cheers for the help

edit - will i just need the ball joint or wishbone as well?

£147.50 is ridiculous. They should be shot.

wishbone doesn't have to be changed. Just the ball joint.

replace both while you're at it, check condition of the ARB links too, if they look worn/cracked/soft then change them, they're nearby.

Tell them you'll provide the parts.
