Well, I spoke to the garage who looked after the car and they said that it had been tighten to as far as they could so I am thinking that the belt just needs to be swapped.

You have got me worried about the different types now! I thought that would be the case 'cos I had a massive probelm getting a ruddy washer pump from Halfrauds and VAG dealer.

In the end my mate said try the German Swedish parts place and they knew straight away what it was and my mate picked it up later for me and brought it back into work.

If I try Halfrauds is there anything you can tell me that will help getting the correct belt?

(I know its a bit of a rubbish question, sorry about that)

its mainly the diesels that have the different belts depending on their year

Ok, I have had a goosey on the CSF site and you can order online with the BUT I dont reckon it will be with me but saturday.

They have it listed as the following:

13412 POWER STEER.BELT-10x864  G2 1.8 8v F.Inj (+PAS) 8/83 >10/91 PAS Belt

That sound about right (there are a few there under diesels like you mentioned).

Ok, got the belt today from Halfrauds (didn't cost much at all in the end).

Its the same width as the one thats already on there  BUT it looks a bit small?

Should I be worried as its just a visual thing and it will fit on fine but snug, dont wanna be forcing it on?

I did check with the guy behind the parts desk and he said that he had looked it up under a Mk2 GTi (8v) and that was the correct one.

Cool, I will have a look. I did do a search when I first found this site but there is a lot to traul through and doing a exact search on this forum is a bit tricky as it brings back everything.

As I wanted to get out and get the part I thought it would be quicker to just post up a fresh topic.

Now I have got some time I am gonna have longer look
