Newbie! calling all candy white's!!!

Hi all!

Have been looking on here for a while and now i need some help please, before i ask though i will just give you my previous!

10 VW mk6 golf gtd
08 Mini cooper s
08 Audi S3
55 Audi A3 3.2 dsg
VW mk4 (jabber re map etc)
Evo 4
Peugeot 306 gti6..................

and the list goes on!

My GTD is white and i'm not sure if anyone else is having the same problem but its covered in tar after only 1600 miles! I always use Autosmart washing products but the tardis seems to be a little harsh! or is the paintwork not hard enough yet for something this harsh? Any tips for tar removal would be great! am really struggling!

I know you might tell me that this should of been in the detailing section but i want to get the attention of mk6 owners as more of them have white cars. Thanks

Hi and welcome

My wife'car is white and I'm a bit of a detailer myself 

As you say white does show up tar spots and Tardis (which I also use btw) is quite harsh.

I've found that some tar spots will wash/polish off if you keep your car well waxed/sealed. 

However some other tar spots are a PITA to get rid of, and Tardis is needed.  It really seems quite random ... some months hardly any spots appear, and then suddenly it can get coated in them.  Hopefully you've been unlucky and just had one of the latter 

I have resigned myself now to putting up with some of the tar spots and only giving it a full Tardis treatment every 6 months, followed immediately with a good wash, rinse, polish and wax.   

For the odd few stubborn spots try a bit of Autoglym Super Resin Polish or a dab of Tardis on a cloth

I find the main problems areas are the lower front wings/doors and the boot. I use clay and a hard wax (Collinite) twice a year (and use clay to remove the spots).

you're right,but the boot and the back bumper seem to be the worst on mine! nightmare! thought tar was meant to stay on the road! lol

  No the feeling, I tried 2 different tar removers from Halfords. Both no good. Now after the car has been clean I use a synthetic Chamois I got from Halfords and a good old dollop of spit, and elbow grease. I now keep on top of them and this method seems to work a treat. Oh and a bloody lot cheaper than the junk you can buy.

I use Bilt-Hamber Auto Clay (Soft version) because you can just use water as a lubricant (mixed with a tiny bit of car shampoo is good).

1. Remove spots
2. Apply wax (Collinite 476 Super Double Coat Wax)
3. Wax will make it easier to remove spots next time
4. Repeat twice a year or more if you have OCD

Harvey183 - I've had no problems removing any tar spots from my CW GTI with just a little bit of polish. I clean mine a couple of times a week and use a quick detailing wax evey couple of weeks so to be honest I don't get much road grime on the car

I have tried a lot of different clay bars and Meguiars Mild Detailing clay (the blue one) is probably the best all-rounder.

I had the Xymol one but it was quite harsh and I found the Bilt-Hammer one didn't las too long.

If you get the car completely clayed then get some sealer and a few coats of wax on it, the tar should not stick to it too well. It can then normally be removed while washing the car or with a little bit of Autoglym Super Resin if needed.

I get them all the time aswell, does my t*ts in! 

Same as everyone else though, micro fibre cloth, wee bit of polish and hey presto! I wouldnt want to be claying eveytime i got them though, you car will be covered in swirl marks

Virgin White like Candy White will always get soiled with time.
Hell to maintain and such hard work. Best of luck to all of you as this would drive me potty. I cannot help but admire your patience.
