Sorry mate, what do you mean by that second sentence? ..... Not done a compression test as the car has other issues, so swapping to the other car as the bodywork is not far off mint. Engine and car will be for sale shortly for anyone who is interested. Think the engine has had a hard life previous to me having it. Is puttin out a confirmed 178bhp, so is fairly nimple for a mk2 golf. Few other cars under the belt on a nice day, not the place to discuss such things though.

Interesting that a seat ibiza with an ABF unit isn't as quick. The ibiza is effectively a polo, so maybe putting an ABF in a golf 2 makes it faster?

Yes, given that most of the Golfs in question have been stripped out, maybe had a tubular exhaust manifold put on them and aren't running a cat.  Those minor mods *might* make them faster than an Aybeefa. Parkers state the weight of an Aybeefa at 1100kg.  Even my Syncro's under that and odds on that's a dry weight, too.

So, remove 100kg, add 10-20bhp..... will it be faster?  You tell me.

I must admit that I would be surprised if a golf 2 weighed less than an Ibiza.
The st argument was about a golf 2 complete with trim with a standard abf lump.
Would that be faster than an Ibiza fitted with an abf.
Probably not.

whats the 0-60 of an abf ibiza, a 1.8 16v golf with run in engine done it in 7 secs on that top gear video.

I rekon it would be faster, no cat and probally a little bit lighter.

Cupra 16v book time is 7.8 seconds, book time on a mk2 16v is about 8 seconds. It's hard to find any decent info on mk2s as they are so old.
After doing some searching, the curb weight of a mk2 16v is about 1100 kg, the same as an early Ibiza.
This may not be correct, I will have to check mr.Haynes.

I have neither a weighbridge, a Seat Ibiza or a Golf2 GTI 16V in my front room and I suspect you don't either.
