^Hmm, thats interesting, i'll have to have a look in the service book, i never really thought about it like that.
In the service schedule book on the first page there should be a sticker with the car details on it, VIN number engine code and transmission code. Then there are 7 rows of numbers and characters further down. On the third row mine shows 3 characters then a space, three more characters the QG1, then a space and three more blocks of three characters. The other half of this sticker should be in the boot.
QG1 is the shorter 10,000 miles and the QG2 is longlife 20,000 miles service. These can be changed with VAG-COM.
Even if you have the long life service 20k its still 20k or 12 months which ever comes first so you sould still get 3 services in 3 years. I'm told that they should send you a service booklet with the details in it and this can take 4 months to appear, I'm still waiting for mine.
Now I've talked about these long service intervals on other VW forums. Just because it a longlife oil which is supposed to last for 20,000 miles doesn’t mean its any good for the long term life of the engine. One of the by products of combustion (petrol or diesel) is carbon that escapes past the piston rings. This carbon is being absorbed into oil, the oil is filtered but it still has impurities that are being pumped around the engine.
I opted for the service plan because a normal service will cost yout £150 (even for just the oil change) so while its under warranty for 3 years £250 is the better option.
