standard tyres - monza shadows?
« on: 16 July 2010, 00:49 »
Hi guys n gals!

As i mentioned in a thread a while ago i was given the standard wheels to run about on before my monza shadows arrive. They will be here soon, so i was wondering what the tyres are that come factory fitted to these? Thanks in advance...

thanks for the reply! thought they might be bridgstones as is on the 17's? :undecided:

Just need to make sure they don't try fobbing me off with some cheapies as the wheels have been ordered without tyres..

My 18 inch Monza's were fitted with Bridgestone Potenza RE050A, I took delivery Nov 12th 2009. IIRC they were fitting either the Dunlop's or the Bridgestones at that time.

I have Conti Sport Contacts

OK in dry but not very good in the wet at all.

9000 miles and I am down to 3mm.

Michelin PS3's seem to be the ones to have.
Mk6 GTi - returned to leasing company after 3 great years and replaced with :

Mk5 GTi - Edition 30 - Revo 1 and some tweaks - 310 bhp. Its a better car than the Mk6  - Now sold and replaced with :

Mk6 R - Rising Blue 5 Door. Won't be standard 270bhp for long

Family Car : Mercedes ML420 with 360 bhp
Looking at Porsche Macan as replacement

It's pot luck but they are premium brand tyres. Normally you get Dunlops, Bridgestones or Conti's or in a rare case Michelins.

Don't panic though, all good, even the Dunlops that get slated on here are fine tyres.

I will stand up for the Dunlops. I hated the Potenzas but for me the Dunlops are the best. Although I have not tried the Michelins. I am still undecided whether to risk it and try them when I chance tyres in a month or 2.

Way too much emphasis is placed on a tyre. I'm not going to say a tyre is a tyre because yes they are different, but were not in a race, pit-stopping or rallying, so any tyre of the top spec tyres should do.

GTI mk6, 3dr Manual (Yes Manual! If I wanted a Taxi I'd hail one, not spend £1500 on one), Candy White, Full Leather, Xenons, ACC, 18", RCD510 + Dynaudio, DAB Radio, Winter Pack, Luxury Pack, Fiscon Bluetooth Plus, Golf R LED's.
