I remember hiring a car in the states with an auto tailgate,.
I must have pressed the button when I was out of sight as when I returned to the car the boot was lying wide open

When you say its a bit harder to close the boot - how difficult is it?!
I like the idea of it opening itself when I come back to the car with shopping or golf clubs etc... but I wouldn't want to do it if it made the boot difficult to shut!

Depends how strong one is. It is heavy enough to shut as it is IMO. Besides, one might get decapitated if one is close enough!
Besides, sometimes, you don't want to open it all the way just to throw something in!

It is hard enough that you can no longer close it by pulling the inside handle down. Successful closure requires hands on the paintwork side of the tailgate.

The scirocco stoppers are there just to give an extra little push when the tailgate is starting off. sometimes in certain weather the struts aren't enough so the spring loaded stoppers are the helping hand.

They do require modification though.

OK... if I have to put my hands on the paint to close, then I've decided against it!
Thats just a recipe for disaster when people rub their hands on the back of the dirty car trying to slam it shut!
