Ok I am a little confused now.

I've been out to look at the car. I understand the principle that the skoda struts have more "push" but I don't understand how this pushes the tailgate away from the car. The angle difference created by rotating the fixing plate doesn't seem sufficient?

Thankfully though I am not getting any rubbing. The only remaining niggle is that the boot doesn't open as high but if I can't find a way around that then I can live with it. My missus uses the boot more than me and she petite.

I could use a little guidance Steve.

After around a month I found the gap (as you look side on) was getting bigger. As the struts are pushing the lid all the time I think the lock mech was slowly letting go.

This was also reported on a similar mod on the Mk5.

Alrighty, just ordered the scirocco stoppers so when they arrive on tuesday I'll have a fiddle around and see what can be done. :)

Don't stand too close to the tailgate when you auto open it. Nearly had my head knocked off with this feature on our Mercedes! Mercifully, I had the presence of mind to move my stiff neck.

Right guys thought I would finish this thread off.

I have installed the Skoda struts and the Scirocco spring loaded stoppers.

There are 3 variables in the process. The first is the positioning of the plates. The second is the struts and the 3rd (optional) is the stoppers.

Here is an easy way to understand the results:

OEM positioning and OEM struts and OEM stoppers - no auto tailgate

swapped positioning + OEM struts + OEM stoppers - no auto tailgate

swapped positioning + Skoda struts + OEM stoppers - sometimes auto tailgate

swapped positioning + Skoda struts + spring stoppers - full auto tailgate.

I am going to try tomorrow the swapped struts and stoppers with the plates in the original position.

Thanks to Steve I am wary of the tailgate moving so I have measured all the gaps and am ready to spot and movement.

The tailgate is harder to shut, perhaps to the extent that the mod is worthwhile. For me though I love the auto tailgate function -especially coming out ASDA etc - so I am keeping it.

Hope this helps,

Ali

Thanks for that. Maybe it could be moved to the maintenance and info section as a "How To"?

What is the purpose of these different stoppers? Or what is the problem with the OEM's?

Do you have a part number?

Think it needs to be a mod.
Its ok that it only applies to the MK6 as we have our very own maintenance and info section

When you say its a bit harder to close the boot - how difficult is it?!

I like the idea of it opening itself when I come back to the car with shopping or golf clubs etc... but I wouldn't want to do it if it made the boot difficult to shut!
