Best head unit for MK2
« on: 13 July 2010, 13:32 »
I'm looking for a good mp3 usb CD head unit however the one that I'm looking at is a sony CDX-GT530ui but the blue light that comes off the display looks to be very bright!!!
Has anyone got the unit in there car and dose this prove to be a problem when driving.
what other make model is good at eye level/top of dash?
thanks in advance

If I could be bothered, I'd get one with a slide out screen.  That way you can use it for sat nav in a good viewing position.

Examples.

I went for the Sony MEXBT3800U. It's a little more discrete with none of the blue glare you're worried about.

It's more pricey, but the Bluetooth is pretty neat.

No worries about fitting in the MK2 either - the loom even comes with swappable ignition and permanent live wires

I think the best looking head unit for any 20 odd year old car is the nakamichi cd400, or the cd500.

I fitted this unit; Alpine-cde103bt

So I can use a USB stick, Ipod, Aux Input & Bluetooth all in one....

No Holes No silly mounts etc etc.... Extra cable goes in the Glovebox with the Ipod... Mic fits on the drivers undertray and you never notice it... Liked it so much I fitted one to the Audi S2 too...

I've been looking at this head unit for my Mk2! Are you able to change the display to green (to match the dials) also is it easy enough to route the ipod cable to the glovebox??

Yes & Yes...

3 or 4 colour options, I use the green ones to match the dash as you say..

Ipod lead I put it trough the glove box light without any hacking or alteration what so ever... The Mic as I say just clips on the drivers side tray in front of the fuse cover...

The only issue I have had is with all the wiring that comes with the unit and you have to make sure you tidy it all up and make sure all wires are out of the way when you try and put it back into the slot...

Other than that its superb... Just linked it up to my Amp & Bass box today... Chuffed I am!!
