I have a touran (which is based on a mk5 golf) and a golf GTI mk6 ,the touran is 2005 and the paintwork is as good as new, bird sh1t will not and has not marked it ,my golf has a mark on the side from bird sh1t,it was on for a few hours max it seems to me that the clearcoat/paint they are using now is Inferior.

What colour is the Touran?

Dark green ,amazon i think  :undecided:

I had Seagull sh*t on my MKV, it was only on the paint for 3 hours, still left a mark and it was still there five years later when I sold the car.
I tried everything to shift it, including machine polishing, but it never came out.

Unfortunately there are a lot of seagulls near my work so it is only a matter of time on the MK6.

Birdie Pooh least of my problems.
Pranged the car yesterday. Fiddling with the Bluetooth and Sat Nav. Idiot. Rolled into a bloody great lorry. Damaged bonnet, damaged grille (scratch), small scratch on bumper (very minor). In the bodyshop. £200+ to fix.
At least they can do some warranty work by rehanging the nearside door and adjusting the gaps between bumper and front wings so that they match.
Driving a Polo match now with a brown paper bag over my head. Horrible.
Sorry am1w to hijack your thread.
I accept my apology.

As this is my thread I have decided on another hijack.
Could the impact with the lorry which dented the bonnet (front edge nearside) and possibly altered the gap between the bumper and the front wing by less than 0.5mm (I really doubt it) and which was at a slow walking pace, have moved the front nearside wing outwards? Cant see any movement from the inside fixings.

Optimum has a sealant that from what I heard becomes a second clear coat. Only a few certified proven detailers are aloud to buy it and they have to sign a waiver. I think it comes in an eye dropper and runs about $100.
Your car has to be spotless because you will be sealing any swirls or scratches once applied.  Its what the dealers claim there crap they sell does but his stuff actually works.

am1w as you may have seen from my thread a while back the wings are not very stong so they may have moved.

Snoops: Which thread was that, please?
When I gave it in today, the bodyshop felt that the door needed re-hanging and it was a warranty issue and which they will attend to. I tend to agree with you as I never noticed this before. The trailing edge of the wing seems to have moved very slightly outwards all along its length so it sits slightly proud of the leading edge of the door.
Funny thing is there was only damage to the front edge of the bonnet on the nearside and a very slight scratch on the bumper just underneath. Yes, could have moved the wing. Hope the crumple zones are intact.
I'll have a chat with the bodyshop again on Monday.
