and thats an opinion backed with passion muthaf**ka!

i'd class dubway's mk3 as "rat look" thats what the vw rat look is about. its a vdub take on it and its perfect as people can have a car that stands out, makes it there own and isnt cheap.

the way it looks like its going (and has been for a while tbh) is ratted car and wheels worth more than double what the car is worth. talking a rusted-to-f**k mk3 golf on mint split schmidts.

vdub rat cars will never be better than a mint vdub though.

i know what a proper rat is, but a rat style dub is never really going to have a v8 in it!.... to be honest i dont care... the only thing i do agree with is a rusty bonnet certainly is not rat, especially if the rest of the car looks completly normal.

This x 1000.

While I might not like ratted stuff (and the Polo/half-rat Scirocco guy is a good friend of mine) I can definitely respect the effort he and others who do it well go to to get the cars looking like that and still be functional.  What I don't get is this trend:

NO NO NO NO

RAT

natural patina, nothing forced. Big power v8's, chopped and dropped.

not a 10 year old hatchback with a funking rusted bonnet and crap stuck all over it.

I see what your saying and i agree that its not the same but i didnt really think the line was so fine to not consider a rusty mk3 dented on every panel with sh!t hanging off with a rack and rusty bonnet was at all ratty? Yeh it cirtainly isnt a splitty with faded paint and rust patches as low to the ground as a nats pube but it still makes a hillbilly impression and isnt something boring you see everyday.

rat = rotten sh!tter you can't be arsed, or afford, to restore - if you're thinking of oxidizing the whole car be prepared to be driving it to the scrap yard within 2 years; even if you laquer it.  a friend of mine did this to his karmann ghia and lived to regret it  :embarassed:

hood = nicely patina'd original paint with polished rims and a dressed hot engine  - you really want something from a hot/dry climate to get the real deal though. this country doesn't have the climate for the paint work to go before the metal.

just my opinion, and it would be a boring world if we all liked the same thing.  your ride, your choice
