Well it all depends on two things really - budget and what you want it to sound like!

I have 2 way pioneers up front stock tweeters in the dash (MK3) and infinity reference components in the rear passenger speakers just acting as my mid bass and fli tweeters in the back and to top it all off my sub in the boot with a 2 farad power cap to give that extra bass when needed as I listen to a lot of heavy dubstep and drum and bass!

And all of it is hidden beneath stock speaker grills!
And to bobbatley - why would you need to reset the hu??

Well I dunno about the rest, but on mine it has a cut off for bass.  Remove the sub and I'd have to change the cut off again or the speakers would have no bass.

What I thought. Want it to be quite basic in terms of design too, just black and carpet

Yer mate those subs are wicked - nice and small keep to one side of the boot (tied down) and coupled with the vibe kit will sound great - just make sure it's the vibe flat sub wiring kit you get - better grade wire to cope with the subwoofer signals

Bobbarley - I would look at that hu as that doesn't sound right!

Why wouldn't it be?  Head unit needs to know what frequencies to send to the speakers, and which to send to the sub.  Exact same deal with my home cinema system.

Bob - well my HU I have only ever had to set once and never had to change. And home theatre is the same once it is set you don't need to change unless the room gets bigger or you replace speakers

I got mine from a mate as she works in a car shop but just search google for it and look for the best price - I paid about £15 for mine!
