Anyone else suddenly feel like their GTI is not fast enough...  :undecided:

Not sure if its just down to the warmer weather but my car feels like it is lacking
I think you just got use to it!
I feel exactly the same after a few months everytime I trade-up to a faster car.
This is why there is a huge market for the tuning industries for speed junkies like us!

You can easily get bore with straightline speed, this is why I tend to buy car that is fun to drive even at low speed (Steering feel, crisp gearchange and sharp turn-in etc..)

Agree with that to a certain point... as I also need my car to be practical.

Only thing is the R32 never at any point felt slow... the GTI is suddenly feeling well down on power. I think it could just be down to needing a service, i certainly hope so.
The R32 is better car Gilly , but then so is the R , where does it all end???

ME!!! In my VEYRON

ALL cars lose power in hot weather due to the lower density of the air, if you are that bothered you could put water sprays on your intercooler, that will give you a bit back.
But there's also the climate control, if you have it on auto it will be using the compressor almost continuously to cool the interior in this weather absobing some engine power [There was a thread about this some time ago] If you don't mind sweating your b*ll***s off in the car turn it off and you should feel some difference.

I think thats only natural and it's the same with most things in life. You get used to your car speed, you get used to your new computers speed etc. But in reality, if you think back to when you first owned it, you'll realise that its just all in your head.

GTI mk6, 3dr Manual (Yes Manual! If I wanted a Taxi I'd hail one, not spend £1500 on one), Candy White, Full Leather, Xenons, ACC, 18", RCD510 + Dynaudio, DAB Radio, Winter Pack, Luxury Pack, Fiscon Bluetooth Plus, Golf R LED's.

In the winter we complain about forced to drive slow cause of snow and the summer about driving with powerloss....pretty much the whole year unsatisfied when driving a fast car.....

I cannot imagine driving my next GTI without a remap...they are so much slower.... so I reckon you get use to speed...BTW I did not find my previuos GTI incredibly fast (after a few months getting used to it) ....fun part for me is that I am still not used to this speed.....

I think you could be right about the service Neil... i did feel the R felt alot better after it had spent an afternoon at VW. Will book it in today and see if it improves.

I never (well very rarely) drive with the a/c on, but do notice the power loss when it is on. It was at 6.30am so the weather wasnt anywhere near as warm as it has been, and had only been driving for about 10mins anyway so that could have been a contributing factor.

Thats what playing with Evo's does to you

Yup, turbo engines lose power in the hot weather.

More noticable if you've remapped.

Also , as already mentioned, air con is taking more from the engine if switched on.

And you're getting used to it. Try putting it back to the stock map for a few days. :embarassed:
