What the hell is wrong with my wagon? (pics)

As I said on here the other day, I have a problem with the car where there's a weird noise that increases in pitch and volume as speed increases.

It also steers wherever it wants to whilst accelerating...

There's no play when the car is jacked up and the wheel is being shook, however, I did notice that the drivers side wheel was turning even when in first gear.

Any help is greatly appreciated as I'm actually considering scrapping the old boy now and buying a 1999 one that's on fleabay at the mo.

Looking at that top picture - I've just noticed some crap leaking from the CV arm...

What's that?

Doesn't do it on the passenger side...

The drivers side one goes all the way round quite happily.

So maybe it's the passenger side that's wrong.

Did you fit the new parts yourself? When I bought mine it did this, and it turned out that when the old owner had some work done the mechanic has left out a small screw on the wishbone which caused the steering to sometimes jerk sideways while accelerating.
Wouldn't explain the noise though

I would guess your steering issue is tracking or camber.

I had the wishbones done a little while ago by possibly the worst garage ever.

That might be it... it was since then that the problem happened.

I've changed the bearing on that side twice.

How did you sort out your wishbone problem?
