Desparately needing some help starting problem.
« on: 23 December 2004, 13:40 »
I pulled into my local garage yesterday.
Got some bits n bobs
went to start the car and nothing.
The lights all come on but the engine would not turnover.

I ended up leaving the car at the garage.
Ive been back today and tried to give it a jump from my van.  No Joy
It makes no difference.

at first i thought it was a problem with my imobalisor as if you dont disarm it, it wont allow you to turn over the engine.

Ive reset the imob. and still no joy.

Ive narrowed it down to the starter motor.

Has anyone else had this problem????

What did you do?

any ideas??

Cheers

Try posting in the garage mate or the relevant section for your car i.e mark 2 etc

Sound like the starter solenoid has stuck. Try wacking the top of the starter motor with a hammer or something - not too hard but enough to jolt the solenoid

Ive given it a quick whack with a hammer.

Still no joy.
The worse thing is that im now gonna have to leave it on a garage forecourt over xmas.

and the only method of transport is my 1.4 escort van.......

The ignition makes the right noises.

It makes a click sound when i turn the key.

Im gonna get my mate to help me bump start it today.

At least if i can get it home ill be able to work on it.

Ive managed to find a new starter motor for ?15 if i want it.
I need to find out if the starter is buggered or not.

If the starter motor clicks have you tried putting it in second gear with handbrake off and then rocking it back and forth, this should click the starter motor round and you may be able to start it then, just a thought  :undecided:
......now officially dubless.
