cam cover will get bloody hot when its up to temp, oil temp will usually sit around 90degrees which is around the boiling point of water after all 
if gauge is sat at max that means your wire is earthed somewhere or the sensor is duff. the temp sensor wire is red/yellow
hmmm so maybe still not enough to trigger oil cooler then?.... yeah you helped me out loads while i was having my fun with wiring! I ended up moving on for a bit as i was having nightmares and suspected some of the senders to be duff. on this note though, whats the sender in the exspantion tank doing?
