Misfire...(AGU owners help needed)
« on: 18 June 2010, 22:52 »
On my way back home today I noticed the Golf was misfiring...

Now I've done a test on the ignition amp and measured the resistance across the terminals as per this topic

http://forums.audiworld.com/showthread.php?p=1535031

The reading across the terminals was approx 206 ohms on all 4 so not a problem really. I'm thinking it's breaking down when it's hot though as it was quite warm earlier.

Can anyone else test their ignition amp and post up some results? I'm guessing the higher the number the more resistance (not good)

Thanking you

I don't have any fault codes either. My amp has lived on the air box mount for well over 2 years now and never had a problem but it's just started. Might have to bite the bullet and get a new one... Not got a TPS or GSF over here though

Its usually the AUM coilpacks that go . . unusual on a AGU

My non-turbo had a misfire recently, bought a £20 coilpack on ebay and now it runs like new.

No fault codes rules out the coilpacks. The ignition amp uses a heat sink, silver plate on back of it.

Its going to be the amp getting too hot. You could try re-use the amp you have, buy some heatsink paste to apply to back of it and make sure plate is still on back on it onto airbox.

You may have to replace it though. I know i have at least 1 in garage or buy a new one.

I still run the heatsink to give it some chance of cooling down. Will take it off and reseat it with some paste and see how I go

Tested a mates ignition amp today and got a reading of approx 270 on all the terminals, got another mate with one that I'll test too and see what happens
