The bulk of time and more importantly money will/has been spent sorting out the left side of the car. The main issue is the big rust patch on the door, and the damage around the handle from an attempted break in years ago.

All this is getting sorted next week when the painting gets done.

Removed the body kit all round with only breaking1 or 2 clips. I'm debating whether to spray them up black along with the black strip on the bumper, or just put them back on.

Rust patches sanded down, and treating them soon. I could only get hold of 2 5 stud wheels with tyres, so can only refurb 2 alloys at a time.

This evening I washed the outside, and gave it a gentle T-Cut, on all the areas that are not going to be sprayed so the guy can get a good colour match.

Didn't get much done today.

Started cleaning and spraying up some of the black trim. I brought some special trim spray that smells like toxic glue, so I assume it melts itself on a bit. Seems to look good so far though. Doesn't need to much to give a good finish.

The front of the sill has taken a whack in the past, which has resulted in this bit bending out, which has gone rusty, and means the side skirt doesn't fit properly.

Cleaned all the crap out from behind and welded it up nicely.

Removed the back bumper for easy spraying and to have a look to see if there was any rust. Just a little surface rust which was grinded down and treated

Still waiting to work out the best way to pop the dent out behind the GTI badge, might just have a word with the bodywork guy, and let him sort it.

Replacing the back pads when they arrive. Disks aren't as bad as they look.

Have been busy at work this week, so havent had time to update the thread, but have been working on the car.

Firstly I tried to tackle the damage to the door handle.

I removing the door card, to see if I could get to it from inside, but I couldn't, so that was a waste of time.

I did my best to try and pull it back out from the outside, but was really hard not to bend and damage the panel below . Also the metal has been stretched so its not looking too good. I'll see what the bodywork guy can do with it. Fill it and spray over I imagine. Ill report back on this after its been sprayed.

I decided to remove as much as I could to make the spraying easy, while trying to keep the car road legal.

I manged to separate the black from the yellow on the bumpers so gave them a good clean, and a sanding where needed.

Decided to clean the drivers seat without removing as I was feeling lazy. Came up quite nicely, but is of course in the worst condition of all the seats
