Really glad I don't have the Monza Shadow IIs!
« on: 15 June 2010, 20:14 »
How do you guys avoid kerbing your alloys, like, EVER?  Especially when you have half an inch less clearance on the Shadows?

These Monzas seem unusually easy to damage, even the standard ones.  I don't remember the Peugeot's alloys being so easily damaged, though after almost 12 years they did have their knocks I have to say.

The thing is, I don't really care.  Much.  (So long as I don't total one the way I did one of the Peugeot's, one potholed morning.)  But if I'd paid an extra £450 for them, I'd be right hacked off.

I think the sidewall height of the pugs was also higher than the 17" monzas as mine don't seem that tall. Iinearly got one of mine today just getting onto the workshop ramp and in 27 years of driving onto that ramp i have never managed to damage an alloy. The way the tyres don't stick over the alloy does not help either. Or the lack of any side edging.

.... Or the lack of any side edging.

The Bridgestone tyres on my 18" Monza Shadows have protective rims which have got me out of trouble thrice so far.

It really does not matter whether one has paid the extra money for the much better looking Monza Shadows or not. However, what is pertinent is the embarrassment one should feel driving a car with kerbed alloys.

...... and therefore become a more careful and better parker. You should alaways park approximately 6" from a kerb to aid manoeuvrability for safely getting in and out of parking spaces and subsequently avoid kerbing your alloys.

It's not just about parking though.  Paragon or not, I'd really like to know how you never get a mark on these things.

I never kerb my wheels by keeping a good distance from the car in front to give me more time to dodge urban craters and park miles away from the kerb(People think I can't park!)
I also protect my wheels by washing it every week and applying sealant on it every month
