If a sensor fails it will give a reading similar to what you havei.e low voltage, bad ground etc
have you tried swapping the coilpacks around and listening closely to see if you notice which is maybe not firing?

I called a local motor factor and asked how much a coil pack would be and they said £64 plus VAT. Might have to risk getting a second hand one on ebay...Does the non-turbo 1.8 take the same coilpacks as the turbo?
I really wouldn't get a second hand one. In the long run it could end up costing you more when / if that fails
