One question: Is the RNS510's amplifier better and more powerful than that of the RCD310/510?
I'm pretty sure they're all the same.
The only way you get better sound from the factory options is to opt for the Dynaudio pack... or fit some aftermarket speakers / amps!

Then the RNS510 may not be what I am after.
I have heard a Kenwood fitted to a standard Golf GTi loudspeaker system and it was quite a revelation. It made a worthwhile difference to the overall sound quality. Additionally, the Kenwood's facia is removable.

Also, the microphone for the integrated Parrot Bluetooth was an active one and fitted inside the overhead light housing. The Bluetooth could be paired with both the Blackberry Bold 9700 as well as iPhone 3GS. I have them both.

The company below is willing to give me a good deal and have fitted a number of Mk6 Golfs.

What do you think?

£1,399.99
Bargain!!!!
It won't display on the MFD like the RNS510 and I can't see any mention of it working with the MFSW although I'd imagine it should.
For the money I don't think it offers that much more over the RNS

I don't really care about the MFD etc
I have a car with standard speakers, which I will not upgrade. To get the best out of them the Kenwood amplifiers would provide the better drive.
I am not too bothered by the intricate fripparies you guys find fascinating.
I want a built-in Sat Nav, the latgest screen possible to install in the console, Bluetooth Connectivity for both my iPhone and Blackberry, a hidden active microphone in the overhead light console, a removable facia for security and powerful built-in amplifiers to provide good sound quality from the standard speakers.
Do you not think the Kenwood fits the bill?

PS: It does also work perfectly with MFSW!

At last someone with a sensible answer maybe I should have asked this question in the first place im not bothered about all the gadets im into the sound qulaity so rather than spending all that money on an head unit I was going to get a sound processor then put that through an amp and uprate speakers will this give me same quality wheter i have 310 or 510 i think answer is yes not botered about 6 cd dont use cd
Yes as the RCD310/RCD510/RNS510 all use the same amplifier chip the TA7564
You will have to find someone who knows how to setup a system properly (rare imo) if you go the processor route as you may make it worse.
Im doing this myslef and am actually currently waiting for my JBL MS-8 to be shipped from the states

An advantage of the RCD310 over the 510 is simply it does not look like a satnav to a tealeaf so your less likley to see your car with a smashed window screw driver'ed dashboard and your hadunit on ebay. Which im told is very common sight at the moment in my neck of the woods. (Thanks VW for making it so easy to remove  )

Hence the removeable front panel of the Kenwood.

Kenwood seems ok, what do you think?
Imagine if you struggle with the RNS 510, what a mess I would be in.
Off to VW now for what I spoke about!

The removable face has been a god send on some of my older cars where I could park it anywhere and take the face off and not worry.  I had a nice Alpine one IDA-X001 I think, where a little pannel with the buttons came off - nice and neat, but obvious.  Fitted in your jacket pocket.

Now... a double DIN with a face off.  Thats a pretty new concept for most manufacturers.  I know JVC did it a couple of years ago, but it must be new for Kenwood.  Unless you have a pretty big handbag - where are you going to put the face?!
Yes, you can remove the face and stick it under your seat or in the glove box... but I bet the tea leafing ba$tards are aware of these tricks and know that you're unlikely to be carrying a 7" widescreen panel around in your pocket!

The Kenwood system looks good on paper.  It has better features than the RNS510 - but then you lose out on the OEM look.  I guess the MDI in the armrest will become redundant too?
I remember Hurdy changed his standard stereo for a Kenwood one, and then found he had to update all his speakers as the sound wasn't great.  Might be worth asking him about it.
Golf R... 3 door, DSG, Leather, Reflex Silver, Black 19" Talladega Wheels, ACC, Parking Sensors, RNS510 with Dynaudio, Reverse Camera, Luxury Pack, Cruise Control & Fiscon Bluetooth.
