This is a follow on from my previous thread..

My 58 plate GTI has the "small fan not working" fault, it's been in the dealers from 9.00 - 5.30 today and they've told me it's the control module, which having read through the many threads on here I pretty much knew myself anyway

The dealer now needs me to book the car back in for a further 2 days...apparently they're concerned that the part they order might not be correct as "apparently" the GTI has several different ones fitted and it's not obvious until the old one has been removed.

Me being the synical person that I ... it doesn't sound quite right to me. I'd appreciate some feedback from anyone who has had the repair done - how long did it take?

I'm seriously considering phoning another local VW dealer tomorrow

 cheers

 Simon

After reading your other thread, it seams like I have the same problem. So I am all booked in for Friday morning to get it looked at, I will let you all know what they say.
Mrk V, GTI, 3dr, DSG, heated seats, winter pack, cruise control, rear parking sensors and now thanks to GizzyWizzy and SteveP in the MK6 section a RCD 510. Awesome!

Juts get a loan car from them. That way its not a problem,

They probably will only need it for 1 day, but if the part is wrong they can order the correct one overnight for the next day. Without you having to rebook it again.

I think they are trying to help you out to be honest

Apparently it takes 2 hours - not sure that they're being helpful, sounds more like they don't know what they're doing !!

I dont think its about how long the job will take, From what you said in your OP it's incase the part is wrong when it turns up.  :undecided: that way they can order the right one without messing you about.

But if you want to be travleing backwards & forwards IF the part does come in wrong then just book it in for 1 day. your choise

Any chance you work for a dealer

I hope this is just because the fan assembly etc is particularly complicated on the GTI and therefore not possible to order correctly for certain. A it's my first VW I hope I don't need to take it into the garage for 2 days everytime something needs doing.

Anyway, this is a bit immaterial now, here's the latest twist.....

The car went into a different dealer today for the same fault. At 3.00pm I get a call saying that they've investigated & there's no fault with the fans - both are working. They suggested however it was probably needing a re-gass which would be causing the coolant to overheat & setting the large fan off. I commented that the small fan had definitely not being working, confirmed by the 1st VW dealer. Apparently this wasn't the case (even though I know for certain it was).

My cynical guess now is that the mech today found a faulty connection/connector which now means the fans are ok but the dealer tried to squeeze £65 out of me for the privilege. My first experiences with VW dealers don't look too promising!!!

I just dropped off my GTI into Beadles VW in Dartford to get the small fan and air con looked at.

I am having the same issue, where the large fan has to work over time to keep things cool. When I pulled up at home last night I plugged this PSI tester valve into one of the air con points (think it’s the same one where you re-gas it) and I was watching the fans at the same time. Well the large one on the right hand side was working like mad, and the smaller left hand side one didn’t spin once. More worrying was that when the fan was spinning at a normal speed, the PSI reading was in the red warning part, then when the fan was spinning like crazy it would go into the yellow alert part.

Suffice to say I was a little worried, so I told the service desk guy about my findings. All was noted on the service sheet, and hopefully if anything faulty is found it is all covered under my extended warranty. Only bad point is if it needs an air con flush and re-gas I'm looking at £85, as that is not covered under the warranty.

Just to follow this up....my fans appear to be working correctly now but the aircon takes ages to "kick in", it blows warm air for 5/10 minutes but then works perfectly fine. Does anyone think a re-gas is needed?

 thanks
