Bad news

A few of you might have read early that I thought an oil seal had gone in my gearbox and contaminated the clutch - so off for a new clutch and get the seals replaced. She'd done 90k now so it's only to be expected ...

Turns out the diff bearing has buggered and left a massive hole in the casing - so new box / clutch etc just what I need before christmas!

It'll have to go on the credit card and Mr Clutch have quoted ?650 for the whole job and recon box - I'm sure some people will have something to say about not going to them, but seeing as it has to go on the plastic  - I need the car for work - and you get a warranty too it's the easiest solution at the mo - just one big pain in the ass !!

Anyone fancied making a record to battle band aid to help raise some funds for 'Heal the Barclaycard' ???

Cheers for the offer blue, but seeing as it's going on the 'plastic fantastic' I'm gonna go for the recon box - you get a 12,000 mile warranty and it'a gonna be as good as new really.

Been bitten before by using a box that was apparently solid to only have the same happen again 6 months later (Fecking Ford's for you !) Not that I'm saying you'd sell me a dodgy box - just that unless it's been stripped it's so hard to really tell what condition it's in, as seeing as I'm keeping my baby for a long time to come (they'll be collectable one day soon ),  I want to give her as much life as possible.

Yeah kinda - but it's around ?200 for the clutch to be replaced (on average), I asked for the Sachs one they do, so add on another ?40 -50 for that, then that's around ?400 for a recon box and all the labour and materials (gearbox oil etc). If I didn't need the car so much I'd have hunted about a bit more, but they can have it ready for tomorrow which is a bonus and would have charged me ?75 for the labour to put it back together anyway...

In the past I've hunted about and used second hand boxes etc and with a new clutch couldn't get it much cheaper than ?400ish with the cost of the clutch kit - the second hand box and delivery - materials - labours etc

Anyone else had a similar experience? What did it end up costing you?
