Whereas my Golf recently did 300miles on one day in Germany, during which dynamics were absolutely essential to the enjoyment of the car.

Horses/courses etc.

Do people fit new wheels to Mk2's?

Yes because OEM wheels were designed 20-30 years ago and are heavy and not particularly strong vs modern designs.

The weight of the wheels has a significant impact on the handling of the car, thus it's worthwhile hunting out a lightweight (6kg ish per rim) set of rims.  The +12kg of unsprung weight you're saving over something like a set of Sebrings will have a substantial impact.

they will weigh 15kg's each next week

Here is your hat, Mark.

If you'd bothered reading the post you'll notice I say +12kg of saved weight.  Not per wheel, but all round.

Instead you chose to make a prick of yourself.  Well done.

As I've weighed Sebrings at 9.3kg I was allowing 3kg difference per wheel.

Do try and keep up with the other adults.

I have Team Dynamics rims on my Golf.  They come in at 6.6kg each, but that was a compromise of cost, weight and strength, so if I'd gone just for low weight I'd have been able to score rims weighing in at 6kg each.

In my experience the ~3kg per wheel makes a big difference to the handling and steering feel.

How do they look on your golf? They are cheap and as racing teams use them they must be good.? whats more noticeable. the handling or acceleration. Annoying thing is Halfords sell them so lil sh!ts can get them!

Heh, FG as far as I'm concerned.  Just looked through my pics and I don't think I have any photos of it stationary.

It's totally handling.  The big difference is how the wheel feels in your hands.  It really comes alive and delivers a lot more feedback and tactility.  The difference is hard to explain, but it transforms the drive.

Check the weight first!  You may be disappointed.
