Fitting single din head unit

I have a 2000 gti turbo and want to fit my own head unit. could anyone give me any advice as to how hard it is going to be and what i need to do it. do i need a different cage to fit it or can i use the exhisting one? etc. Any help would be appreciated, cheers. Dan

i dont know much about mk4's but i do know halfords sell the special double din to single din pannels.

then just bung in the new cage.

Its a very simple job.

Depending on what you currently have will determine what you need to do, I'm guessing you have a single Gamma radio/tape unit?

If you don't have the tools necessary to release the unit currently fitted, go see you nearest friendly dealer (or just buy a set from your local stereo shop, only a few quid).

After removing this, remove the standard fit cage.

Fit your new cage, plug your new loom into the factory fit stuff (it should all be standard ISO connectors, so you can't go wrong) and stuff the head unit in. Hardest problem will be fitting all the wires in!!

Final step is to sit back and enjoy!!

totally agree with u there un less its a high power unit then u will need to feed a wire from battery to H/U with fuse normally will tell u on the wire itself but it usualy is a red and yellow wire yellow being a bit thicker thats the one which the battery feed connects too.

I don't think there's any need for that the Mk4's mate - I ran a 4x50 watt Pioneer CD player/DVD screen in mine with no probs at all - the Mk4's loom is well up to the job, the power wires are of a real decent guage, fatter than those on the stereo loom themselves
