It is driving me NUTS! Car refused to start today at the petrol station, started fine, but as soon as I accelerated it would bog down and die. When I put the clutch in the revs stay at the same spot for a second or two then drop to about 400 and back up to about 2000, sometimes staying there and others dropping to 400 again.
Does anyone know, where the ground for the CTS goes? As I said, the hall sender has a ground coming off it's earth wire which grounds to the cylinder head. If I put the multimeter on continuity it beeps if I stick one probe in the earth plug of CTS and one in the earth for the hall sender. Maybe it's mixed up or something? Although it was running fine before hand.

A ground is a ground though mate. Doesn't matter where you ground stuff as long as it has a clean surface to ground to.

OK I think I may have sorted the problem. Got VAGCOM working finally after I found the drivers on the Ross-Tech website. No other drivers would work. Anyway, installed them, configured COM port and tested on car. Finally managed to get a fault code reading. Got this the first time:

        31-00 - Open or Short to Ground

That was after taking the complete sensor loom off and not being able to reset codes. Anyway, so I cleared them codes and retested. Got this:

So I cleared the code once again, scanned and nothing. No codes came up. I let the car warm up, turned off, turned back on, revved it some, turned it off, looked for codes and nothing again, all clear. Turned back on, idles perfectly and throttle is well with no bogging down. Scanned and nothing, everything is clear. Lets hope and pray that it's sorted now and all it needed was the new sensor fitted and the code cleared. Need to take it for a test drive and then I'll plug it in again and look for codes.

Cheers dude, means a lot. I'm the kind of person that when I get fixated on something, I will not quit until sorted. Spend the last 2 days on VAGCOM trying to get it working. When my mum's laptop had a virus I spent a week on it trying to get rid of it, and when my car has a problem like this, I spend however long it takes working away on it until it's fixed. Both my mum and my girlfriend have told me the same thing as you

Happens a lot less now though, doesn't happen all the time and when it does it's not as high fluctuating. However it's still drinking petrol and it stinks of the stuff, and it's hard to start up (stalls a few times before it gets going)


Must be the wires.

the bogging issue sounds like what i had when one of my throttle position switch wires had snapped?  checking each wire individually is all very well, but it doesnt help you if a couple of wires have shorted together unfortunatly. I'll see if i can find you a good engine loom section

Nice one RJ, danny rewired the throttle wiring so I'm sure it's in good nick. I think the bogging down is just the overfuelling, but not sure in that. Let me know what you can find

Cleared and didn't come back, but I'm expecting them to return soon...I'll recheck the wiring, but as far as I'm aware it's in good condition as danny repaired it and soldered it on.
If you can find a good loom though it would be awesome, let me know mate
