Right! Got a positive update!!!!!!!!!
I've come to the conclusion its the temp sensor. I'll be ordering a new one from VW tomorrow.
Fan has kicked in, finally! Although It's kicked in at 100 on the water gauge now, oil temp was 98. I think the coolant temp sensor is over reading, as when the temp was 90 on he water, the oil was 72 (this was after leaving the car to col down for about an hour). I think the fan is kicking in at the right time (gauge stuck at 90) but because the sensor is reading wrong it's showing 100 (give or take 5).
With the sensor unplugged, would the idle still fluctuate? I unplugged it, gave the connector a clean with WD40 and started it up (unplugged) and it fluctuated the same).
I'll buy the stuff you showed me on eBay Paul, to get that pipe unblocked (coolant system must be pretty restrained if it's not flowing through the water bottle). And tomorrow I'll order a new VW sensor. Hopefully on the road for good again now!
