but if it shouldn't be blocked and is just bunged up with sh*t then unblocking it will surely help?? surely if it was meant to be blocked vw wouldn't have bothered putting the hose on and save more money??

Yes, it is not meant to be blocked but the problem is unblocking it. Its a small hole in an awkward position and in my case the blockage was too hard to unblock without destroying the pipe.

So it's not meant to be blocked? I'm confused.

so you poked a happy dragon now youv'e pissed it off.

dought you have any pipe blockages it's easy enough to test for anyway ( blow down pipe and if you cant it's blocked simples )

it took a bit of bleeding the first time but once bled it started circulating quite happily, guess thins has just started happeing since you pou a stat in bought for 50p and a used rollup
all the VW's have gone bar 1.

Yes definately not meant to be blocked. But the poor design of the insert with a small 3mm hole which is pinched down smaller at the join makes it easier to block up.
As I said I'm pretty certain the one on my car is blocked and has been for a long time and it hasn't caused it any real problems apart from the initial bleeding when I changed the rad.

Well it's happily circulating now Danny, but it just annoys me that a pipe is blocked so it's not fully effective.
Stat has nothing to do with it, its working as it should I assure you.

Paul - I'll try and get a spare pipe to try and unblock and see if I'm successful.

  • Hello, my name is John and I'm a dub addict.
iirc there is a vr6 pipe which might be usefull here, its got a rad size fitting either end and a smaller nipple on the side, coudl use it to replace the junction on the 16v pipe?  I'll do some digging and see if i can find it

I've got a VR6 radiator and the pipe is 16v (as far as I know) so fitment I think is the same.
What do you mean could be used to replace the junction with the 16v pipe? You mean chop it in bits and make a pipe?

yeah chop out the junction where the small pipe meets the big pipe, and insert a plastic piece in its place. on the vr6 there is a plastic bit somewhere with a small pipe connection which would be perfect I think, and iirc I've seen something similar on a MK4 golf as well. Need to do some scrappy rummaging methinks!
