I have a GTI not a diesel but I'm averaging 32 mpg on my daily drive back and forth to work. 9 miles each way from a cold start. I live in a city with some traffic to work. During my recent euro trip I got 29.4 mpg on my 4038 miles journey in two weeks. I would have though it would be better then my daily drive but driving 90 mph to 140 mph on the autobahn really uses fuel. :D I don't care about fuel economy. It's the least expensive thing about owning a car over here even though we still pay more for the fuel here in Norway.

Yep. I got four. One on the side mirror, one on the front spoiler and two very small, barely noticeable on the hood. Not bad considering it was a really long trip. I didn't get a single chip while driving on the autobahn though. I'm guessing they would have been massive while doing 200+ kph. I expected to get some stone chips so it's ok. I'm glad I didn't kerb the wheels though after driving in several big european cities. Those really high edges driving into parking garages are scary. :D

That's a very small number. Now if you came to the UK, your car would be peppered. Keep the car away and save your paint!
Very impressed that you did not kerb the alloys. Now that's the mark of a very good and careful driver.

Thanks. :) I was actually planning to drive though UK to Newcastle and take the ferry back to Norway but it's not possible anymore. Good thing for my GTI then. Anyway back to the mpg topic. I'll update my original post about my trip instead so I don't hijack this thread.  :)

My car runs on special diesel. It's a bit more refined. I think the name is petrol or something.

Anyway I got 525 miles out my tank from full to empty. There was nothing left in the tank as I pulled into the station. During my journey I averaged 65 ish with one blast up to 135 kmph

I know we have a bit of rivalry between diesel and petrol but my car is putting out 270 bhp and 300 lbs of torque. I'm getting maybe 70% of the mpg that a 170 bhp diesel gets. The diesel is putting out about 65% of the power of my car? When looked at that way I'd say the GTI is still a pretty good car for the performance.

And if you want to argue with that go look at a Focus RS owner's mpg claims... yet the GTI can match that thing for pace.

Congratulations!  You win a Polo Bluemotion Miser Edition!

The reason for the GTD is that you can drive how you like and get that kind of MPG.  Bit pointless me saying I can get higher MPG when I don't typically (I actually get pretty much the same as you're claiming over 7,000 miles now).

You might have missed my joke there (I'll admit it was subtle). I was driving pretty much how I like at one point.

But I'll take the Polo bluemotion... brilliant cars I think
