It failed. Bugger.

Low effort on handbrake, small patch required to floor, couple of brake pipes and hoses, rear tyres not mounted correctly.

Going to sort it tonight all being well. Wheel wise i'll put my bbs rx's on for now while i source some narrower wheels for the rear.
Booo, unlucky mate... at least its not a big list.... good luck with sorting it out.

cheap fixes mate, chin up! :afro:

I don't think a semi will give the same results

the list was a little bigger than that!

cleared blockages and adjusted washer jets (easy but took ages and got soaked), checked and swapped a few bulbs, passenger seat and carpet out ready for welding, and swapped the wheels over.

its off for retest tomorrow. hope the handbrake goes through because it isnt a lot better than it was...

the car now looks really wierd sat on the bbs wheels. they are off a 6n polo gti so are a high offset so they sit right into the arches. they look totally lost. if they arer staying i'll be getting some 20mm spacers on there!

i am half tempted to run the porsche wheels as they are untill i get pulled for them (stretched tyres being a grey area) but i am getting a bit old for that so i'll probably try and find another pair of fronts. its a pity they dont seem to make them in et53 and 8 inch wide. c'est la vie

Well it's passed the mot.

Now i can start on the bits i've been meaning to do for ages.

Immediate jobs-

Clean up calipers, paint them up and reassemble with plenty of copper grease

Clean the engine bay. It's an embarassing mess.

Sound deaden the doors, new plastic sheets then finally get the door panels back on.

Get the driver's side seat bolsters repaired and reupholstered. But that'll be a longer term job.

Exhaust needs 1 new clamp

Bumpers need straightening up.

Steering wheel and stalks need squaring up

Heater matrix needs replacing i think. My mechanic mate's apprentice has offered to do that for 20 quid so i'm going to spare myself the frustration of cocking it up

Front wings are coming off again. I bent them taking them off the donor car and they don't fit very well now. When i fitted them i didn't really care or notice as we were rushing about but it's playing on my mind now.

Also need new wheels i think. Can't deal with the offset on the rx2's and as nice as they are they are a bit too subtle.

So still plenty to keep me occupied for a while.

Cars looking ace!

Sorry to hi-jack, did the car fail the MOT because of stretched tyres? :undecided:

dont consider that a jikack dude.

the tyres were one of the fail points. i could have argued the point but it was far easier to stick some mk2 wheels and tyres on.

on the fail sheet it gave the reason as "tyres incorrectly mounted" and "tyre interferring with bodywork"

the tyre wasnt catching the body, it was the rim itself!

as for being mounted incorrectly, the bead is sitting in the right place and as the  tyre fitter says, if it isn't mounted properly then it wouldnt hold air or suipport the weight of the car.

anyway the issue is that particular tester failed it. it has made me a lottle nervous about running it as it is though...

i thought i was careful! got most of them and i have my suspicions that the rubber strip has been liberated for someone else's car...

but i cant go around accusing people of stuff.
