MK4 Audio advice/recommendation rear sounds...
« on: 11 May 2010, 09:12 »
Ok I needed some help/advice and also wanted to know what your set up is in your car and what you use to get sound in the back.

I currently run what I have in my sig, the CDT's are amazing but when the Mrs is in the back with my son the speakers aint that clear or that loud as the CDT's are doing most of the work so in the back there aint much clear sound and you can hear too much bass and not enough of anything else.

So I want to change the back speakers also, so wanted to know what you guys run in the rear of the car
i.e. do you have co-ax speakers in the doors
Components? Amped or not amped?
Or 6x9's? again amped or not amped?

Some of you may have heard CDT's in action so know how crystal clear they sound so I want some speakers to compliment that sound nice, clear, crisp and loud without distorting.

So what do you recommend?

Also I have to add that the search tool on our forum is so pants it's unbelievable, I searched for the size of mk4 golf speakers and other variations similar to that and it bought up sweet fook all even when i tried to put a * at the end to open up the search, still no joy :( pile of pants IMO :(

for rear speakers i would look at some focal components as coaxials will sound pants due to the fact the tweeter location will be too low to get a nice sound not an amp unless your h/u has 3 pre outs then i would amp them but set the amp up quite low so the sound stage isn't drawn towards the rear
and i would run them off the h/u
as for the size in the rear they are the same as the front 6.5"/17cm and you will need the same adapters for the front autoleads part number SAK-3103

Troublestarter your a star mate, cheers for the info.
So comps in the back and just running off the stereo should be ok then?

I've never heard comps running of a headunit does it still sound good?
As i've always had this myth in my head that all comps need to be amped to get anything decent out of them. Don't get me wrong if i can get comps to sound good without the need for an amp i'd be happy with that as it mean I don't need to buy another amp.

Anyone run CDT's in the back? Or what comps would you recommend for the rears to run off the stereo directly.

they will sound fine off the h/u speaker outputs
the only thing with components is the passive crossovers create a tiny amount of resistance so you get slightly less power to the speakers but not enough to make them sound rubbish
obviously amping them helps but it is not really necessary
CDT's are awesome speakers i have had a few sets over the years but i have been running a full audio systems set up for the last 6 years(thats because i used to work for the uk importer/distributor)

Oh jeez I thought it was a type of set up.

Must be damn pricey. CDT more than does the job for me for price vs performance. The clarity is amazing, but as with anything there will always be something much better out there but in turn more costly.

So on the hunt for some good comps that aren't too powerfull as the system won't be able to power them properly.

Infinity ref range for example?

That's not bad at all, I got my CDT's for about £200.
Maybe one day if we meet at a meet I would love to have a listen to your set up, sounds like a top set up and your sure sound like you know your stuff from previous threads i've read.
Cheers
