I have been thinking about cleaning up my wheel hubs. Did you sand off the rust or paint over the top with the hammerite?

Cheers

Use a wire brush to get most of the rust off the hubs. As for the calipers use some wet/dry paper. Then clean both hubs / calipers before painting.

Weird, I was just about to post a message asking if anyone had done this as the paint on mine has split and theres now a massive chunk of paint missing on 2 of them.

Is there anything specific lotion/potion that should be used to clean the calipers before painting them ?

Bit of a newbie when it comes to car maintenance but im thinking process would be
(1) wheel off
(2) wet and dry paper to get rid of dirt on caliper
(3) clean with something? to prep for paint
(4) paint then optionally lacquer

sound about right ?

cheers

Exactly, thats how I did mine. I washed the area with a damp sponge before using the wet/dry paper, then lightly rinsed and wiped dry after using the wet / dry paper (watch out for having red hands after that)
