« on: 04 May 2010, 10:10 »
has anyone changed these themselves?

how big a job is it and how hard/easy?

wanna get my 130 remapped but as it's just gone through 100k i'm guessing a new clutch is a given and flywheel could do with being replaced too......

the fun really is about to begin!!!
a work in progress......someday i might think i'm happy with a car....maybe

so far: 40mm Gmax lowering kit, upper and lower S3 strut braces, pipercross panel filter, Smoothed air box and 18" Audi R8 reps

Havnt done one myself, but its a expensive job. You need to budget around £600-800 for the job/parts. I phoned up vw today and a dmf is £480 TRADE price, retail is £590!!!!  Then clutch kit on top of that.

Cambelt at a garage round the corner worked out at 2.5 hours labour (£125) + Parts £120ish?

I was quoted over £500 at another place that claims to be cheap, when asked if they could match the other garage they didn't respond.

But for the purest engine experience, displacement has no replacement. All other methods are simply attempts to artificially recreate the benefits of displacement.

I've seen this set on Euro Car parts, do you know if the specs allow for any more torque than the OEM clutch and DMF? I mean is there any advantage or disadvantage of using the sach OE over the VW OEM?

TBH im not really sure if the specs allow for large power increases. I've read on here that if your clutch is on the way out a remap will be sure to kill it off A new clutch and DMF will be okay with a map but Im no expert...

I had mine mapped after and it drives perfectly. Plenty of power through the rev range rather than running out of puff early low down, so I think it would only be the low end torque that would be the largest strain. Mine doesn't slip etc.

Sachs set-up is deffo best if your gonna go for big torque i.e. stage 2 map as it can cope better with the torque.
Also heard once you have this installed you won't have to worry about it again as it should outlast the car.

£500 all in sounds damn cheap though, is that price right?

Honest to god, yes! I looked about for ages and couldn't get the sachs kit for what he can get it for so yeah, £500 all in is a bargain IMO. My local garage wanted 1k and VW wanted £500 +vat just for the DMF!!

If anybody is interested, pm me and i'll pass his number on.

So you got an OEM Sachs clutch and DMF fitted for £500?

Think some people are getting confused between an OEM kit and the Organic Friction and cover plates which can handle up to 400lbs ft torque

OEM Kit = approx 300lbs ft
Upgrade = approx 400lbs ft torque
